April Reads

Happy May to everyone! I know this post is a bit delayed, but better late than never. April brought me back down to earth a bit with my reading but was still a fantastic month. Overall, most of the books I read, I would recommend.

Let’s get into it!

Another Girl Lost by Mary Burton

Well, at least I got this month’s dud out of the way early. Another Girl Lost should’ve been right up my alley with its murders and dark storyline, but I ended up feeling bored. The ending was mildly surprising, but the lackluster buildup made it fall flat. That said, I’m probably in the minority here, as plenty of reviews seem to really love this one.

Those Empty Eyes by Charlie Donlea

Those Empty Eyes was a great bounce-back from the first book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was captivating and hooked me right from the start and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to Alex’s family. The plot jumps between timelines and takes several different directions before tying everything together at the end. While each storyline was strong on its own, I’m not sure all of them were necessary. That said, I really enjoyed this book overall and would definitely recommend it!

A Very Bad Thing by J.T. Ellison

I had two five-star reads this month, and A Very Bad Thing was one of them. It opens with the murder of a highly respected writer and unfolds as a classic whodunit. I absolutely loved this book and the ending takes you on a wild ride. Just when you think everything’s been explained, think again. I highly recommend this one!

Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak

Hidden Pictures was a truly unique thriller and a highly enjoyable read for me. I’ve seen a few reviews mentioning the presence of numerous phobias and potentially triggering content, and I can understand that perspective. There are definitely several controversial themes woven into the story. While I won’t name specifics, as they play a significant role in the plot, I do want to offer a gentle disclaimer for readers who may be sensitive to certain topics. That said, I loved this book and would absolutely recommend it!

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I’m becoming a big fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid. While her books aren’t the typical genre I gravitate toward, I’ve now read several of them, and they always offer a refreshing break from the dark thrillers I usually enjoy. Malibu Rising was no exception! The story is packed with family drama that I think many readers will find relatable. I absolutely loved this book, and it ended up being my favorite read of the month!

As always, if you’ve read any of these, I would love to hear your thoughts and if you have any great books you’ve been reading, I would love recommendations to add to my TBR list.

Stay hungry my friends!
