Cook rice according to package instructions. Set aside.
In a large non-stick skillet, sauté the diced green bell pepper and onion until they begin to soften. Add minced garlic and sliced sausage, and continue to cook until the sausage is browned and the vegetables are tender.
Add the beans, chicken broth, and seasonings to the pan. Simmer for about 10 minutes to soften the beans.
Remove about ¼ cup of the beans and mash with a fork. Add the mashed beans back into the pan and mix well to thicken the sauce.
