Hey y’all and happy hump day! Of course, I need to start by talking about the most exciting thing going on in Minnesota at the current moment, the Minnesota Timberwolves! The energy we’ve been feeling the past couple of weeks has been crazy and with the win they pulled off Sunday night to advance to the next round, the vibes are so high! Hopefully, we can get to a game this next series but we’ll see how it goes. It may be a pipe dream with how crazy ticket prices have been for the playoff games so far.
Anyway, aside from the amazing win on Sunday night, I spent earlier in the day on Sunday with my mom and sister for a girl’s day in Wayzata. We started the day getting pedicures and then went and got lunch. After lunch, we headed out to a memorial garden nearby where we had trees dedicated to my grandpa and grandma when they passed away. My grandpa passed away years and years ago and we planted the tree in the garden during his memorial service there then my grandma passed last year and we were able to dedicate a tree that was already planted but not claimed yet that was right next to his. It’s such a cool thing to visit this beautiful garden rather than a typical cemetery when visiting them so I highly recommend that if you want to have a meaningful memorial for a loved one.
Going back to our lunch, we went to a new spot for all of us and it was amazing! We went to The Grocer’s Table which is a scratch kitchen, that partners with local farmers to source their ingredients which I think is so cool! We love to support the farmers. During the day, it is counter service, so you get a table and they give you a number, then you go up to the counter to order, give them your number and they will bring out the food to your table. They have both lunch and brunch items as well as pastries and a full coffee bar. They also offer dinner later in the day as well which is full table service.
The other unique thing about The Grocer’s Table is they have a market in the cafe as well. There were so many different items you could purchase from cheeses, olives, pickles, salad dressings, the list goes on and on. The item I had my eye on but did not end up buying was some truffle salt. One thing about me is I am an absolute sucker for truffle but I don’t cook with it at home so I decided not to buy it but it caught my eye.
Now to get into what we ordered, I truly do not think you can go wrong, all of their food was so good!
Drinks
Tranquilo – This is the drink I ordered and is made with tequila, passionfruit, and lime. I love margaritas and that’s what I typically go for but I wanted to try something a little bit different while also being a fun summery drink. This was delicious! I like fruity drinks however, they can easily be too sweet and give you a gut-rot feeling, but this was a perfect balance of sweet and refreshing without tasting like you are drinking sugar. This drink also had the word “aperitivo” next to it which I had no idea what that meant. Fun fact: aperitivo translates to “to open” and refers to a drink to have before a meal to stimulate the appetite. How cool! You can save that little piece of knowledge for your next trivia night.
Sparkling Shrub – My sister ordered this one and is made with prosecco, lemon, and lavender. If you’re a fan of wine spritzers, this is a great option! It was light and refreshing with floral notes to make it the perfect spring drink. She also ordered a salad which is the perfect pairing for this drink and if you want a lighter-feeling meal.
Hibiscus Lemonade – My mom got the hibiscus lemonade as she is not a big drinker and was a great non-alcoholic option! This is a spin on a classic lemonade with a slightly fruity, floral undertone and a super pretty pink color. You have to have a sweet tooth for this drink but nonetheless, it was very good.
Food
Spring Cobb Salad – The spring cobb salad looked super delicious and is truly the perfect spring salad. This take on cobb salad includes snap peas, watermelon radish, pancetta, asparagus, avocado, bucheron, and sunflower seeds, on a bed of mixed lettuces and is tossed in a fennel-chive vinaigrette. Another fun fact: bucheron is a goat cheese from central France and was one of the first goat cheeses to be imported by the U.S.
The Roost – The Roost is a fully loaded grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, cheese, LTO, avocado, and a delicious garlic aioli. I am a sucker for a good grilled chicken sandwich and this did not disappoint! The chicken was super juicy and it had all the toppings you could need on one sandwich. I also added the jojo fries which are thick-cut fried potatoes that are spiced and served with a special sauce.
Ferndale Turkey – The Ferndale turkey sandwich has thick-cut roasted turkey with cranberry chutney, watercress, appenzeller cheese, and aioli but what makes this sandwich extra special, is the cranberry wild rice bread that it’s served on. This sandwich is such a great mix of savory flavors as well as some sweetness from the cranberries. Another fun cheese fact: Appenzeller is a hard cow’s milk cheese from Switzerland and, therefore is similar to Swiss cheese that we are typically familiar with, even though technically it is all Swiss cheese.
The Grocer’s Table was a fantastic experience and I would absolutely go back. The prices are definitely on the higher end but not crazy high either. The sandwiches we ordered don’t come with a side so you have to add that on so that adds to the bill but portion sizes are great for what you pay and that is very expected for the area. I also love that they source their food locally and seasonally so I feel good about the quality of food I am getting which makes it all worth it!
I hope you all have an amazing rest of the week and GO WOLVES!
